	Romo is a step closer to competing in the U.S. Open golf tournament. Romo was among seven golfers who moved on to the sectional round following a round at The Honors Club of Dallas. Romo shot a 2-under 69, which put him in a four-man playoff for three spots. Romo advances to a 36-hole qualifier June 7 at The Woodlands. If he's among the top finishers there, he would have a spot in the season's second major tournament June 17-20 at Pebble Beach. Last week, Romo advanced to the Monday qualifier for the Byron Nelson Championship, but had to drop out because it conflicted with a Cowboys workout. The first round of the Byron Nelson was Thursday. There's no Cowboys conflict June 7.

	Unfortunately, the drops and lack of production have been far more prominent for Williams in the 1 1/2 seasons since Jerry Jones traded four draft picks to Detroit and then gave the former first-round pick from the University of Texas a $45 million, five-year contract extension. Williams seems resolved to change things this season, saying that he will do everything he has to do to make that happen. ``I promise you I won't lead the league in drops. I know that,'' Williams said. ``People are off my bandwagon, which I don't mind. I'd be off my bandwagon, too.''

	Romo is going to miss his tee time while practicing football. Romo earned a spot in open qualifying Monday for the Byron Nelson Championship, this week's PGA Tour event only a few miles down the road from the Cowboys' practice facility. Except Romo's assigned tee time Monday morning is at the same time he will be taking part in the Cowboys' first organized team activities. Romo says football comes first. Romo helped guide the Cowboys to their first playoff win in a decade last season. The top four in the 18-hole qualifying event will get in the Nelson, which begins Thursday. Romo shot an even-par 72 at a pre-qualifier last week.

	The Cowboys and Rams have swapped underachieving former first-round picks Monday, with offensive tackle Alex Barron going to Dallas and linebacker Bobby Carpenter headed for St. Louis. Barron was the 19th pick of the 2005 draft and has made 74 starts for St. Louis but has been at least a mild disappointment. The Rams drafted Rodger Saffold of Indiana to open the second round of this year's draft and could start him at one tackle opposite Jason Smith, the second overall pick of last year's draft.

	Jones has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, putting the troubled cornerback on a team with a history of giving players second chances. Tom Hunter, Jones' agent, tells The Associated Press the deal will be signed Monday or Tuesday. Cincinnati was among a handful of teams that showed an interest in Jones, who was released by the Cowboys after the 2008 season and didn't play last year. Only 26 years old, Jones has seen his career bottom out because of his repeated arrests.

	Jones got a second look from the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday, an indication that the team with a history of trying to rehabilitate troubled players might be considering its next project. The Bengals hadn't made a formal contract proposal as of Tuesday evening, agent Tom Hunter told The Associated Press. Jones was in town for his second workout with the team this offseason. 	Holland has signed a two-year contract to stay with the Dallas Cowboys after being inactive for all 16 regular-season games last season. Holland started only two of the eight games he played in 2008 after the Cowboys acquired him from Denver just before that season started. The signing announced Monday takes care of the only remaining unrestricted free agent for the Cowboys, who last month cut five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Flozell Adams.

He is listed as the starter at free safety. A seventh-round pick out of Illinois in 2007, Ball has 26 tackles and five pass breakups and has been a key special teams player.

	Hurd signed his contract offer Friday, bringing him back for a fifth season. Hurd went into last season battling Miles Austin for a role as the team's third receiver, then wound up back in the pack and continuing his role as a special-teams ace. Over 50 career games, he has 31 catches for 510 yards and two touchdowns, and 51 tackles on special teams.

	Bowen has signed a tender offer to remain with the Dallas Cowboys. Bowen signed his offer Friday. Bowen had career highs in 2009 in tackles (32), sacks and pass breakups (three each), and quarterback pressures (35). He also got his first NFL starts in two games. In 47 career games, he has 83 tackles, four sacks, three tackles for losses, 52 pressures, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. Dallas first signed Bowen as a rookie free agent out of Hofstra in May 2006.

	Hatcher has signed his tender offer with the Dallas Cowboys. Hatcher was a third-round draft choice in 2006, taken 92nd overall. In 62 regular-season games, he has 113 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks, five tackles for a loss and 58 pressures. He appeared in all 16 games last season as part of the defensive line rotation, making 29 tackles.

	The Dallas Cowboys have released Hamlin two years after he signed a long-term contract. Hamlin signed a six-year deal through 2013 before the 2008 season. Hamlin's base salary this season was to be just over $5.5 million. Hamlin was a Pro Bowl pick in 2007, his first season in Dallas after spending the first four years of his career in Seattle. Hamlin set career highs with 102 tackles and five interceptions his first year in Dallas, but his numbers have decreased since getting his $39 million deal. He had 92 tackles with one interception in 2008, and 74 tackles with no interceptions last season, when he missed four games with a high ankle sprain.

	The Dallas Cowboys have released five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Flozell Adams two years after he signed a long-term contract. Adams signed a six-year deal through 2013 before the 2008 season. Adams was coming off his 12th season and was the longest-tenured player on the team, having started 178 of his 182 games for Dallas. All of his Pro Bowl selections came between 2003-08. Adams, who turns 35 in May, was due a $2.5 million roster bonus in June and a $5 million base salary for the 2010 season.

	The agent for Jones says several teams have expressed interest in the cornerback, but no signing is imminent. Ray Savage told The Associated Press on Friday that the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals are among the suitors for the troubled player. Savage says he hopes to set up in-person visits with those teams in the near future. The 26-year-old was suspended for the 2007 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for repeated off-field incidents, including six arrests since the Tennessee Titans drafted him in 2005.

	Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Wednesday at the NFL meetings that the Lions are gathering more information about Jones' level of commitment and how he could fit in Detroit's system. The Lions were among a few teams that worked out Jones last week in New Orleans. Jones, now 26, was an elite cornerback and kick returner in his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. But he was suspended for the 2007 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for his repeated off-field incidents, including six arrests since he was drafted in 2005. Schwartz coached Jones from 2005-06 when he was the defensive coordinator for the Titans. Schwartz said he already knows Jones' talent from their history together.

	The Bengals were considering signing often-suspended cornerback Jones after he had a tryout. The troubled Jones has incurred multiple violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy. Cincinnati has signed other players with checkered pasts, including the late Chris Henry and Matt Jones.
