Today, Milwaukee placed Jeff Suppan on the DL and optioned Bill Hall to AAA, while calling no one up. Tonight, Alcides Escobar is being held out of the AAA lineup. So let the speculation begin.

1. Alcides Escobar has been traded for a couple major leaguers.

2. J.J. Hardy has been traded and Alcides Escobar is about to get called up.

3. Alcides Escobar is getting a day off.

Please God, deliver us Halladay.

K, there's like no chances of that happening, I know. I don't know if we even have enough to get him after seeing what Toronto is demanding. I just hope we aren't getting screwed over in a deal for Jarrod Washburn or something.

Am I over analyzing or do you guys also think something is up?

It's impossible for Doug Melvin to make a mistake. We don't trade away our top prospects for 32-year old slap hitters, unlike some teams I know.

#2 is the most likely option if they are making a move. What other pitchers could we be going after?...

I have no idea. Maybe Webb or Haren? Lannan or Meche or someone like that is probably more reasonable.

Honestly, Lannan is my favorite pitcher out there. If we got him, I'd be thrilled. Obviously Webb or Haren would be better short term, but Lannan is going to be an ace.

I'm not quite that high on Lannan. I would love to have him, but I don't think he has the stuff to be a future ace. I could see him being a Mark Buehrle-type pitcher, but I would be pretty surprised if he consistently pitched at that level.

Do you really think the Brewers should be buyers at this point?

I think they have to go one way or the other. If they buy big, I don't see why not. They could be selling Hardy as well though, which might be best.

Your post intrigues me. I have not heard any Brewers rumors that seemed that strong recently.

It seems to me like they have slipped more than i would like, but if they do a major move, i am all for it. Getting rid of Hardy would probably be a decent idea for the Brewers at this point if he could help them land that major piece.

How did the Dodgers get Sherrill for only their 8th best prospect? Sherrill is under Dodger control till 2011!

I have no idea how Los Angeles got Sherrill so cheap. He has been flat out dominant this year and is one of the better left-handed relievers in the game. Even when he had his struggles last year, teams weren't hitting him all that well. We're talking about a pitcher who can only beat himself with walks.

Regardless of the direction Milwaukee goes in, it's painfully obvious that they need to acquire pitching. Whether it be prospects or veterans, they can't sit with what they currently have. Their current staff has no future and an even worse present. Escobar's value is limited outside of the SS position and with Hardy being opposed to move to 3B, he's the logical choice to go. Boston and Milwaukee seem like a perfect pair for a deadline deal.

Yeah, Sherrill isn't a god, but he is a pretty good reliever. It is not like he is a reliever who you are getting as a rental for 1/3 of the season, then you lose him via FA.

What trade idea do you have for Boston/Milwaukee?

J.J. Hardy for one of their pitching prospects would make sense. Buchholz is probably aiming too high, but I don't think someone like Michael Bowden or Daniel Bard would be out of the question. Boston seems pretty desperate to fill that hole.

Hmmmm.... Interesting idea. Bard has been pretty good as of late for the Red Sox. I do like the idea of moving Hardy for pitching help but his value isn't Buchholz high.

That sounds like something is up. I really thought you guys were gonna get Cliff Lee. Since the M's have Snell now you'll probably get Washburn, but I'm not sure about Escobar, since they have Wilson at short, and he's the best in the biz.

Yeah, apparently Seattle is really high on Rickie Weeks, but with Jose Lopez I doubt they would give up a piece like Jarrod Washburn for him. I also doubt they would give up someone like Jeff Clement for Jack Wilson to turn around and trade for someone like Alcides Escobar, like you said. Us and Seattle seem like an unlikely match at this point.

Angel Salome WILL be called up. Although he has been sitting out due to injuries im sure he will be called up and Rivera will get called down. Rivera is old and so is Jason, maybe next year our two catchers will be Lucroy and Salome. I doubt Melvin traded Alcides. MAYBE JJ but definatly not Alcides, Escobar is the next Rickie Weeks, then he will be the next Ryan Braun. He is young, fast, and swings for contact not power (something Braun has done more of lately) Weeks is probably in trade talk to I WOULD LOVE for the Brewers to aquire John Lannan, and i agree Melvin doesnt leave two roster spots open.

I like how you pointed that out. I would have just thought, oh well. Lol

I don't see Salome getting called up until Milwaukee is mathematically eliminated. Even though I think he should be the starting catcher right now, it's clear that the Milwaukee organization loves both Kendall and Rivera. I don't see them turning their back on those guys for Salome. Rivera doesn't receive enough playing time to warrant swapping him and Salome. They're better off letting Salome continue to play frequently in AAA when he gets healthy again.

I like Escobar, but I wouldn't compare him to Braun or Weeks. Alcides is going to be an elite defender and a solid contact hitter, like you said. I wouldn't classify Braun or Weeks as that type of player. If you mean he's going to be like those two in the sense of being the next big thing, then I agree. If Milwaukee fans think J.J.'s defense is great, they're really going to be in awe when they catch a glimpse of this kid.

ONE PITCHER WILL NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR, AS SABATHIA DID LAST YEAR. THE BREWERS ARE DONE THIS YEAR, AND SHOULD NOT TRADE AWAY THEIR PROSPECTS FOR A QUICK FIX.NO ONE WILL DO WHAT SABATHIA DID FOR THEM LAST YEAR, THEY RODE HIM LIKE A HORSE. AND BY THE WAY..................... GO CUBS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that trading for someone like Jarrod Washburn alone wouldn't accomplish much. But if they magically acquire Roy Halladay, you would have to consider them contenders for at least the division. He could have a CC Sabathia-like impact on this team.
