A trade for Roy Halladay with the biggest piece being Cole Hamels.
What do you guys think of this?
Cole has proven to be up and down but has shown to be dominant when he is up. Halladay has only one season on his contract and it would be tough for the Phillies to extend him and Lee after next season.
However, a combo of Lee and Halladay at the top of the rotation would be very good.
Many teams are chasing Halladay, what rumors are you hearing?

Philly better re-sign Halladay if this happens.

I wouldn't do it if I had to give up Hamels. It would be so hard to get both back. We'll see though.
They better make sure it is incentive laden. None of this crap where she signs a huge deal and turns into Kirstie Alley.
That would be HUGE!!! If they get Halladay they'll probably win it all next season if they stay healthy.
Even before they lost the series,I had already hatched my "trade Cole Hamels plan". I didn't have a specific piece in mind, but figured if they ditched his salary they could get young studs in return and go sign another top pitcher. I'd personally rather have a young 3B, or OF, but Halladay would be nice, and let's be honest, this team needs to win in the next 3 years, because in another year or two, guys contracts are going to be up and it's gonna be a mess.
They are looking at Beltre and Figgins. I was very surprised they got rid of Feliz because he was so strong on defense.
I don't like it if I'm a Phillies fan. Hamels had an off-year, mostly due to his many post-season, non-baseball activities, but when his mind and conditioning are right he's one of the top young left-handers in the league, and he's like 8 years young then Halladay. Halladay has been relatively injury-free thus far, but he's thrown a lot of innings so you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank
All very good points but there is no doubt that the Phillies window to win is in the next 1-2 years.
If they can rent Halladay for a year and put them in a great position to win, I would consider it (depending on who else they have to give up)

The Phillies do have good prospects but say they do the trade, I assume they lose of the 2 in FA. I did read that the Phils are probably gonna try to resign Lee. If they lose Halladay do you think Drabek will be ready?
One other thing to consider, and I just thought of it...Happ will be in the rotation next year so the Phils may be willing to gamble that he can ably fill Hamels role so may be a bit more willing to part with Cole. Especially if they feel as though their window is only going to be there for the next 1-2 years
Beltre is such a bad idea at 3rd. And why do we need Figgins? We have Victorino & Rollins. If they get Figgins, and then still insist on batting J-Roll "leadoff", I'll be pissed. I've heard there's a good chance of them bringing back Feliz for less money, even though they declined his option. I'd like that.
As far as Hamels goes, I look at it like Beckett. Former World Series MVP, not far removed from that season, but he's always been FRAGILE (It must be Italian) and he's a head case. Look at what the Beckett trade did for Florida.
Ship Hamels out.

I wouldn't want the Phillies to trade Hamels for Halladay if they are not able to re-sign, both Halladay and Lee after next year. Hamels had an off-year and to risk his future with the Phillies to have Halladay for one year is a HUGE risk.
If Hamel is under control for more years I think I'd keep him. He's young and will be a lot cheaper. That way the Phillies can still resign Lee.
