Some Questions on Halladay Deal.
Nats sign Matt Capps Newer »
Within the next couple of years the Nationals have the potential to be a scary team. Last season the team has a few bright spots. Everyone knows that Ryan Zimmerman is a stud at third base. During the season they traded for Nyjer Morgan. This was Nyjer’s first full season in the majors and he performed well at the plate for a CF and he put up some ridiculous numbers defensively. Elijah Dukes had a great 2008, but fell off a cliff in 2009. Hopefully he can rebound. Josh Willingham has quietly put together some very nice seasons.

they are on their way to being decent, but I dont think drafting Bryce Harper would be a wise decision, for many reasons I care not to explain here
Yea, but its an extremely risky pick. Against tougher competition, Harper has struggled. And after that famous home run derby, it looks like his swing has changed, which is not good. Plus, him and Scott Boras will ask for at least 20 million. Im not sure if the Nats can afford to have back-to-back record breaking rookie deals
Most #1 picks come with a lot of risk. Very rarely are they major league ready right away. The money thing shouldn't be a problem. It doesn't count towards the MLB payroll and he'll probably get around what most #1 picks get. Strasburg got $15 million and he's as close to a sure thing for a pitcher as you can get. There's no way Harper will get that.
I don't think he'll get that. Whoever drafts him knows he's still a 17-year old kid. It really will depend on this season, but he also won't be playing against top competition. In 2008 the Rays drafted HS SS Tim Beckham #1 and gave him a $6.5 million bonus. He'll probably sign for a little more than that.
They didn't draft Harper. He'll be in the 2010 draft. Every amateur player is a risk. There's no difference between drafting him and signing a stud international FA who's 17.
I mentioned Strasburg. Lannan's not that could, but he's a capable 4th or 5th starter and with Strasburg, Zimmerman, and Detwiler that's all they need.
They need a few things to go their way, but it could happen.

His career FIP is almost a full run higher than his career ERA. That indicates that he's been lucky throughout his career. His career K/BB is 1.38 which is not good at all.
You've claimed the Nationals as you new team? I remember Ryan Zimmerman and
Josh Willingham. I remember them as having potential. In 1993 when the SF Giants
almost left town for Florida I was considering claiming the Colorado Rockies as my
new team. Boy, am I glad I didn't have to make that move. The Giants have too much
history and great old players. When I first listened to them in the 60's they ended up
having a lot of Hall of Famers from that era.

Could you please stop typing like this? You know, with like
two words
in the 2nd line, like you were typing some sort of backwards and
retarded bibliography
but I doubt you ever wrote a college paper, since you type like a
motherfucking retard.
I dont give a shit if this gets deleted by a mod, but I have a serious case
of OCD and
the way you type is super, duper annoying. It makes me very very
sad.

I am sorry that my replies annoy you. I am not sure why the lines get chopped up like
they do. I don't do that when I am typing my repsponses. I am not doing it to annoy
you or anyone else. Oh, and I did make it thru college. I an AS degree in Radiology.
I have been an xray tech for 30 years.

It must be something to do with my laptop. But your replys come out the same way
so I wouldn't be talking trash to loudly.

Im not sold Dukes will ever be that good and I think Zimmerman is what he is at the moment which is an above average player. I dont see stardom but I like the direction they are going in. Zim and Morgan is a good start. Dunn unfortunatly wont be around but Strasburg, Zimmerman, Storen and others are good to build around.
They have made some good moves and do have a future. I like the new coach and the new GM has also been MUCH MUCH MUCH better then Bowden

I'm not sold on him either, but his 2008 numbers were very good. My point was that they have a nice future.
They certainly are headed in the right direction. It shouldnt be long before they over take the Mets on a consistent basis
Is (Insert stat here)/9 the same as PER 36 in basketball statistics?
This isn't just random, by the way. I read this in your blog. Which is kind of a hard read because it's all just a big block (until separated by the pictures) and you throw in a lot of advanced statistics, which I know a few, but a casual baseball fan like myself would be extremely lost.
Check it out now. The format was fixed. K/9 and BB/9 are just the number of strikeouts and walks a pitcher has per 9 innings. I guess it would be like how many points a basketball player scores every 48 minutes.
On my last post on the blog I hyperlinked the stats.

Baseball Prospectus said that hes got a BETTER change-up than Lincecum? Holy shizznit.
This also serves as a bump.

I was at the game at Wrigley when Nyjer broke his wrist. He ran into Christian Guzman, and ended up tripping over a bullpen chair, and eventually landing wrist first into the brick bullpen wall.
Now they have a lot of offense,an average rotation, and an above average bullpen, unless McDougal hits the fan, then the ninth inning will be come an issue,as it was when they had Hanrahan. Tyler Clippard has the stuff to be nasty, and he had an impressive 2009 as the set-up man. they also have Scott Olsen, and Jordan Zimmerman coming back from injury. In two to three years they have the potential to compete with Philly, and Atlanta.
Scott Olsen is nothing special, but with Strasburg, Zimmermann, and Detwiler that's all they need. As for their closer they drafted Drew Storen with the 10th pick last year to be their closer at some point. Their rotation has the potential to be nasty. Christian Guzman and Adam Dunn will also be on the block this summer.
They would be insane not to draft Harper, the reward so far outweighs the risk that you have to do it. That being said I hope they don't and 9 other teams fuck up and he falls to the Jays at 11.
