Well, in my opinion, when two teams go head to head the chances of Team A beating Team B is not 50%. The skill levels, injuries and preparation will make this percentage change.

Of course there are people with the opposite opinion: "so with that being said there chance of winning is equal to that of the spurs chances 50/50 ! " in reference to the Lakers and Spurs tonight.

Thoughts? Comments?

I agree with you here. The odds of a team winning aren't always 50%. If it was there would be no such thing as a favorite, underdog or an upset.

Yea, it just doesn't make sense that someone would think the odds are 50/50.

There are certain cases where it is 50/50 (or close enough to it) but the majority of the time 1 team is better than the other and therefore they have better odds of winning. Point spreads acknowledge this.

I think some people like to say games are "a coin flip" or "50/50" in the sense that its so hard to pick with certainty who will win. No matter what the odds are, either team has the initial "opportunity" to win. But of course, in real life, the odds will be swayed in favor of one team or the other and the likelihood of one outcome will be more than the other.

ie. if the Cavs and Nets played 1000 games (without injuries)....there is almost no way the Nets can win half of those games.
