Threads / Who are your top 5 Heisman candidates for 2010?
It's early, but my top five are...................
1. RB - Mark Ingram - Alabama
2. QB - Jake Locker - Washington
3. RB - Ryan Mallet - Arkansas
4. RB - Dion Lewis - Pittsburgh
5. QB - Christian Ponder - Florida State
What are your opinions?

this list looks pretty good to me but i would change christian ponder to Jacory Harris just out of Miami Pride and the high hopes that he will not have another game like he did against Wisconsin.... As for Mark Ingram im not so sure about. I really think that after the Texas game that Trent Richardson will see a lot more playing time
I like your list. I think Case Keenum from Houston and Kellen Moore from Boise might should be in the list. I've also heard a lot of buzz on Terrelle Pryor, he may have a huge season.
I'm surprised I've heard so much about him. The only reason they've said him has to be becuase he played so well against Oregon in the Rose Bowl. He was 23 of 37, 266 yds, 2tds and 1 int. Not great but he led the Buckeyes that day. Main thing I've heard is he's poised to have a great season. I want to see it before I believe it, I was just throwing some names out there.
Because Ohio State is going to be a national title contender and he was one of the most highly touted high school prospects ever. Going into his third season, I think this is very reasonable.
What...im so confused, i actually agree with 4 of the 5 on your list, this is just, weird.
Christian Ponder, naa...gotta throw Jerrod Johnson in there for me (QB Texas A&M).
Personally i think Jake Locker sucks, he should not be in the running for it, but they will put him there...at the end of the season id say it will end up like this:
Mark Ingram
Ryan Mallett
Dion Lewis
Those 3 will go to the ceremony.

Not a shot in hell. He is a terrific player though, no doubt about it, but a receiver has to put up just ridiculous numbers to even be considered. I dont even think a guy like Crabtree, or Dez Bryant, were ever even mentioned in the Heisman race. Its not that he isnt talented enough, its just the stigma of the Heisman really, it always goes to a QB/RB.
Umm he was a freshman this yr, which means he will be a soph next yr...so no, he would be the 4th soph winner ever (if it were to happen).
how can you do Heisman canidates when the season hasn't even started yet?? your kidding right? no wonder its turning into a popularity contest.. this kind of stuff happens a month after the season ends.. oy.
but my point is that you are making a list of canidates, and the season hasnt started.. how and why? its like voting for mvp the year before.. what if none of the players in your list do anything, or break a leg, etc.. your speculating on what if.. not what they actually do..
that can be said for any prediction. "If Brees gets injured, Saints arent going to playoffs next year". I just wanted opinions on who people had on their list for players to watch for in the Hesiman race.
I agree with most:
I dont know about Locker from Washington?
Ingram, Mallet, and Ponder all will have monster years. I'm not sure about Lewis. I know he is awesome but I'm not sure about his Offensive Line situation right now? He doesnt need much but when a RB wins the heisman you have got to give it to that line.
There is one defensive player that needs some talk and that is Mark Barron from Alabama. He led the SEC with 7 interceptions last year and tackles (76) by a safety. The great thing about him is he is only going to be a Junior. I think he could make some people really think about it. IMO Eric Berry isnt as good as this kid is going to be and his stats showed as well from this previous season.
I'm gonna also throw in Matt Barkley from USC. He was by far the most mature freshman QB in the nation last year and he will have some great talent around him.
Tate Forcier could also being a candidate.
