Threads / Idea of a chatbox?
a car forum I used to be on as well as a bike forum i am currently on both run em... They are really fun because its direct interaction amongst members, it takes away from useless thread clutter and believe it or not, end up learning first names and becoming on a first name basis with many members that are on frequently.

Congrats you are on a first name basis with me.
Congrats you are on a first name basis with me.
It would take some people away from the sports chat in the threads. There are many people here that are already on a first name basis with others. I think that if people want to get personal, they can message each other or use other instant messengers.
on the contrary, in my experience, it made me more responsive to threads. In the chatbox, it loads within the box when a new thread is created or a post is made in an existing thread so as ur chatting, it shows u everything going on in the forum.
You mean like a chatroom? those can get quite confusing, i tried those sometimes and people constantly pop in and out. I understand that it saves time, but they are messy
i guess kinda but not really...honestly, on a forum of 6000+ people, there might have been 10-15 actively using it. Those guys were primarily the ones replying and using the forum. As I am sure you notice here, you see the same 20-30 names on 75% of the threads, futures, etc. and since half the threads are off-topic or become off-topic, it keeps it clutterless, somewhat.
agree....sometimes i just want to post a thread that says "Anyone want to have an intelligent conversation about anything"
I'm sure Jesse is well aware of this....I mentioned to him the meebo idea 8 months ago. I think you could try it for a month or so to see how it might work out, but it's his web site.....If he wants to try it , he will try it....
